Key government officials led by Vice President Jejomar Binay confirmed their attendance to the 22nd Subdivision and Housing Developers Association Inc. (SHDA) National Developers’ Convention and General Membership Meeting on Sept. 26 to 27 at the Fairmont Makati.
Binay, who is concurrently chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), will keynote the two-day convention on Sept. 26.
This year’s convention theme is Groundwork: Shaping a Sustainable Housing Industry and will cover relevant housing issues, including the first year report on SHDA’s Housing Industry Roadmap.
Legislative champions of housing and land use Sen. JV Ejercito, Sen. Loren Legarda and Rep. Alfredo Benitez (3rd district, Negros Occidental) are expected to talk about the Legislative Agenda on housing.
Sen. Estrada chairs the Economic Affairs Committee and the Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement. Sen. Legarda leads the Committees on Environment, on Climate Change, and on Cultural Communities. Meantime, Rep. Benitez is chairman of the Lower House Committee on Housing and Urban Development.
To tackle the economic impact of housing, the convention presents National Economic and Development Authority Deputy director-general Rolando Tungpalan on Housing in the Philippine Economic Agenda, and Urban Land Institute Young Leaders Group and Brycg Inc. Head Eric Manuel on The Philippine Economy: Outsiders’ Perspective. Tan Sri Datuk Eddy Chen of the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia, provides a global perspective by speaking on the Housing Sector Public-Private Partnership in Malaysia.
Representing the panel on key housing agencies are HUDCC Secretary General Celia Alba, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board Commissioner Antonio Bernardo, Home Development Mutual Fund President and CEO Lawyer Darlene Berberabe, Board of Investments Undersecretary Adrian Cristobal and Land Registration Authority Adminstrator Eulalio Diaz.
Speaking on understanding the consumers are PSRC research director Arman Mercado and Acumen strategic consultant Albert Cuadrante.
SHDA is the largest organization of housing developers in the country, with over 200 members from chapters across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
