In this issue of the gazette, we shine the spotlight on a prominent figure in the housing sector. Dubbed the “Industry Adviser” by his peers, Mr. Bansan C. Choa is a veteran in the field armed with decades of experience and a masterful command of his craft. He is highly respected by SHDA, major associations in housing and development, and other related groups and stakeholders.
In November of last year, Mr. Choa, himself a SHDA Board Adviser, and a former SHDA President, became one of two industry representatives to the National Human Settlements Board (NHSB). His nomination followed the creation and activation by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) of the NHSB, which serves as the official body that helps DHSUD provide direction and guidelines in the crafting and implementation of policies, strategies, and programs relating to housing and urban development.
In the private sector, Mr. Choa helms many companies such as Surewell Equities Inc. of which he serves as Chairman and CEO; I-remit Inc. as one of its Directors; Sterling Bank of Asia as Director; Ferris Sobel Properties Incorporated and Merrytown Properties Corporation as Chairman, to name a few.
Mr. Choa has worked closely as Board Adviser of the Major Private Sector Housing Organizations, SHDA, OSHDP, and NREA. He was also a past Board member of the Professional Regulatory Board of Real Estate Services (PRBRES); President of the Philippine Retirement Inc.; and is currently involved in the many Technical Working Groups (TWGs) of government agencies, with the DHSUD currently benefiting from his tutelage.
Throughout the years, he has received many awards and recognitions, some of which include “2016 Most Outstanding Professional Real Estate Practitioner”; “2015 Outstanding Private Executive with a Heart for OFWs”; “2012 Pusong OFW Award”; “2012 Biz News Asia Real Estate Who’s Who”; “2012 Exemplary Men of Influence”; and was among the “2011 Top Entrepreneurs in Singapore”.
Adding to his extensive list of distinctions is Finalist of the “2016 ASIA CEO Awards for Global Filipino Executives”; “2011-2014 ASIA CEO Awards for Global Filipino Executives of the Year”; “2007 Filipino Association of Singapore”; and “2006 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines”.
Mr. Choa has participated in numerous conferences and fora as keynote speaker, and has served as panelist in various private and government events—including senate and congress hearings pertaining to the housing sector.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce Major in Accountancy at the De La Salle University (DLSU) and his Masters in Business Administration in Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), as well as attending a Housing Finance Course at Wharton Real Estate Center.
